That false front drawer trick took me 6 hours to figure out

I was trying to match a false front drawer on a built-in I was fixing up last week. Thought it would be a quick swap but the reveal was off by like a quarter inch on one side. Ended up having to shim the slides twice before I got the gap right. Then the face frame needed a rebate I didn't plan for. Anyone else spend way too long on something that looks simple?

A few years ago I would have judged someone for taking that long on a drawer front. Then I tried to retrofit a false front on an old kitchen cabinet and spent a whole Saturday getting it to sit flush. The reveal was off by an eighth of an inch and I had to plane the back of the face frame because the cabinet box was twisted. Now I understand exactly what you mean. Those simple little jobs can eat up your whole day if you don't see the hidden problems coming.

Six hours sounds like a personal best time for that trick.
