PSA: a $400 veneer job went sideways on me in Cincinnati because I got cocky with the glue
Two months ago I was in a client's dining room in Cincinnati gluing up a walnut veneer panel on a built-in hutch, and I spread the contact cement too thin on one side because I was rushing to beat traffic. The veneer bubbled up overnight in three spots about the size of a coaster, so I had to pry it off with a putty knife, sand the whole panel back to bare wood, and redo it with a vacuum bag, eating the cost of the ruined sheet and two extra trips. Should I have charged the client for the redo since the original quote was already signed, or is eating it just the price of a mistake like that?
