Pro tip: That trendy cabinet hardware store in Portland is overhyped
I drove two hours to check out that popular place everyone raves about in Portland for drawer pulls and knobs. The selection was huge, sure, but the prices were nuts - $12 for a single basic brass knob that I can get for $4 online. And the quality felt the same, maybe even worse because the finish had a weird orange tint under the store lights. I asked the guy behind the counter why folks drive so far, and he just shrugged. My opinion is that local shops with actual craftsmen are way better, even if they have smaller displays. Has anyone else noticed the hype around those big hardware stores doesn't match the real-world stuff?

$12 for a basic brass knob" - yeah, that's not exactly a crisis.

Agreed, I drove three hours to that place and left empty handed feeling totally ripped off.
