My client in Tacoma said he'd rather have a drawer that lasts 20 years than a cabinet that looks perfect for 5.

He told me that while pointing at a tiny gap in a dovetail joint I was stressing over, and it made me question if I focus too much on invisible perfection over real durability in my builds.

Chill out, it's just a drawer. That tiny gap won't make it fall apart.

Remember my grandpa's old workbench, the one he built in his garage. The top was covered in deep cuts and dark stains, and the legs were a bit wobbly. He used that thing almost every day for forty years. I used to think it was kind of ugly, but now I get it. The stuff that gets used hard isn't supposed to look perfect, it's just supposed to hold together.
