I finally chose a Domino over a biscuit joiner for a big built-in project and it was the right call, but man, the price still stings.

After 3 days of assembling the 8-foot maple unit, the alignment was perfect and I didn't have to fight a single joint, so has anyone found a decent way to justify that initial cost to a skeptical client?

Totally agree with Angela. That tool cost is a business expense, not a line item for the client. I bought a track saw for a big plywood job last year and just ate the cost. The math is simple, you charge a good rate for your skilled labor, and the right tool lets you work faster and cleaner. That's how you pay for it, over many jobs, not by billing one person for your whole shop upgrade.

Wait, you're charging the client for the tool? I thought that cost was on you as the business owner...
