Costco brisket ruined me for my local shop after 4 tries

I grabbed a prime packer from Costco for $3.99 a pound last month, and I figured I'd give it a shot since my local butcher charges $7.50. Trimmed it like normal, threw it on the smoker for 14 hours, and it came out more tender than anything I've gotten from the shop across town. Went back twice more to confirm, same result every time. My supplier has been selling me choice grade at a premium and calling it prime for who knows how long. Anyone else noticing big box stores beating out the old school counters on quality lately?

Man, it's like the whole world flipped upside down. I swear I see this everywhere now, not just meat. My local hardware store sells the same power drill as the big box joint for 30 bucks more just because they've been there since my dad was a kid, and half the time the staff doesn't even know which bit fits what. Same with the small pharmacy charging double for the exact same allergy pills you can grab at the chain. It's like "old school" turned into a license to overcharge, not a promise of better stuff. People get loyal to a name on a sign but the actual product sitting on the shelf is often just... the same, or worse.
