Relying on online listings is where things go wrong, but checking gear should mean calling to ask if it's actually working right now. I've had hotels swear their printer is fine, only to find it out of toner when I get there lmao. A quick phone call asking about paper and ink can save you, but even then, stuff breaks. Always have a plan b, like knowing a nearby print shop, because hotel business centers are never a sure thing.

Hotel printers are just one of those things that never seem to work when you need them. Even if you call, the person on the phone might not know the real state of the equipment. It's like they have a script to say everything is fine, but no one actually checks. That's why having a plan B isn't just advice, it's a must for anyone who travels for work. Besides knowing a print shop, maybe save important files on a USB drive or cloud storage so you can print anywhere.
