Overheard a warehouse manager say barcode scanning saves them 2 hours per shift

I was at a logistics meetup in Atlanta last month and this guy from a mid-size parts distributor said they cut their picking errors by 40% just by adding handheld scanners. It's not some fancy system either, just basic USB scanners and a free barcode generator. Has anyone here done something similar for inventory tracking?

Saw a similar story on a supply chain subreddit a few weeks back. Guy said they switched to barcode scanning for their small hardware store and went from losing about $200 a month in miscounts to maybe $20. They used a free online barcode generator and just printed labels on regular paper. Took them like a weekend to set it up. The big thing he mentioned was how much easier it made cycle counting too.

Did you guys find it took much training to get your team on board with the scanners? I did something real similar at a small parts warehouse I used to work with, and the biggest hurdle was getting the older guys to trust the system over their paper lists. But once they saw how fast it was to just scan a box instead of typing numbers, they loved it. We literally used a $50 scanner from Amazon and free barcode software, and our inventory went from being a mess every Monday to spot on by Wednesday. It's crazy how something so SIMPLE can cut out so much headache.
