My warehouse manager called me out on overcomplicating our pick paths
After 3 years of tweaking our warehouse layout in Denver, my lead picker flat-out said my system made him walk an extra 200 feet per order. He showed me his own route on a napkin during lunch and it was just straight lines, no zigzagging. Has anyone else had to let go of a fancy system because the people actually doing the work had a simpler way?

The napkin route from your picker is the exact kind of thing that saves 200 feet per order. I've seen managers spend weeks on optimized software only to have a guy with a pencil draw a better path on a greasy napkin. Sometimes the simplest way is the fastest way, and you gotta swallow your pride and let the workers show you how it's really done.
