A warehouse manager in Columbus told me to time my pickers for a week before buying anything
Back in 2019 we were about to drop $14k on new scan guns because everyone swore the old ones were too slow. A warehouse manager over in Columbus asked me one question: have you timed them? I hadn't. We spent a week with a clipboard tracking how long each pick actually took, and it turned out the guns were fine, the aisle layout was the problem. He said "you can't fix a route with a tool" and that stuck with me. We redid the shelving order for $600 instead and picks got about 18% faster. Now I ask that same question before any big buy. Has anyone else been talked out of a purchase like that by someone outside their own company?
