My habit tracker was a total lie for 8 months

I spent almost a year carefully filling in my habit tracker every day. Different colors for water intake, reading, exercise, all that stuff. Looked amazing. Real pretty in my journal. But I finally realized I was just coloring boxes. I was filling them in at night from memory, not actually tracking in real time. So my data was garbage. It looked productive but told me nothing useful. Now I just pick two habits max and check them right when I finish. Anyone else find their tracker was more art than actual tracking?

A 3 color labeling system works better than 5 or 6 because your brain can actually process three categories in real time. I switched to just "yes/no/partial" for my three main habits and stopped trying to make it look like a rainbow. The whole point is to catch yourself slacking, not to have a pretty book.

My 3 color system is basically "did it", "nope", and "the kids interrupted me" lmao.
