Got caught in a downpour at the state fair and my journal got soaked

I was at the state fair last month, just sitting on a bench and trying to quickly log some ideas in my bullet journal. Out of nowhere, this huge rainstorm hit and I got completely drenched. My journal was in my bag but the water got in and the pages got all wavy and the ink ran. I mean, it was a mess. I lost a whole week's worth of notes and my monthly tracker was ruined. Now I'm paranoid about taking it anywhere without a waterproof cover, but I hate how bulky those are. Has anyone found a good middle ground, like a specific type of pen that doesn't run or a paper that handles moisture better?

Ugh, that's the worst. I switched to a waterproof notebook and a space pen after my backpack got soaked. It's not perfect but way less stress now.

What kind of stuff got ruined in your bag? I had a raincoat fail once and my whole sketchbook turned into a sad, puffy pillow... all the ink just bled into weird shapes. It's such a gut punch to lose notes like that. Your space pen idea is actually pretty smart for beating the weather.
