The gas station clerk who said "you don't need that lottery ticket, put that $5 in your tank instead"

That was three years ago in a tiny town outside Tulsa and I still think about it every time I fill up, has anyone else had a stranger say something that stuck with you?

My dad's buddy Charlie told me at a gas station in Lubbock back in 2018 that I should stop putting cheap oil in my truck because it was basically just pouring money down the drain. He was right. I spent an extra $1,200 on engine repairs six months later and never forgot that conversation every time I grabbed the bargain bin stuff. Now I buy the middle grade oil and figure it saves me the headache later. It's wild how a five second comment from a stranger can just live in your head rent free.

Did Charlie ever tell you what brand he actually ran in his own truck?
