Showerthought: I started pulling cash out for groceries on Sunday instead of swiping, and my food bill dropped $60 a month
I used to just tap my card at the store and never look at the total until the bill came. Back in January I started taking out $120 in cash every Sunday for food, and when it's gone, it's gone. The first week was rough and I ran out by Thursday, but by week three I was planning meals around what was on sale and actually checking the unit price on stuff. Last month I spent $118 on food total, compared to the $175 or so I was averaging before. The weird part is I don't feel like I'm eating worse, I just stopped tossing half a cart of stuff I never cooked. Anyone else tried the cash envelope thing for groceries, and does it stick for you long term?
