Rant: I kept buying bulk because it looked cheaper per ounce, then I actually did the math on my pantry
For two years I bought the giant 5 lb bag of rice and the family size box of cereal because the unit price tag made it look like a steal, but last month I finally added up what I was tossing when things went stale in my cabinets in Phoenix. Turned out I was throwing away about $22 a month in food I never got around to eating, which is more than I would have paid for the smaller sizes in the first place. Does anyone else track what they throw out, or am I the only one who was fooling myself with those per ounce tags?
