My grocery budget in Denver got wrecked by a surprise party I forgot about.

I had to feed 8 people with only $40 left for the week, so I made a giant pot of chili with beans and rice from the pantry. Anyone have a good cheap meal for a crowd?

Yeah and it's wild how often that happens, life just throws a random extra five people at your dinner plans. Robert976 is totally right about pasta bakes, they're a lifesaver. I feel like half of being an adult is just knowing how to stretch a few cheap ingredients into a whole meal for a crowd. It's a skill you don't think about until you NEED it.

Wait you fed eight people for a whole week on just forty bucks? That's insane, I can barely feed myself on that. Chili and rice was a genius move, stretches so far. For another cheap crowd meal, try a big pasta bake with whatever veggies are on sale, maybe some lentils mixed in for protein. It's filling and you can make a ton for almost nothing.
