My grocery budget blew up when my kid's team won their soccer tournament

Last Saturday in Springfield, my son's team won their championship game and the coach said 'pizza's on me!' but then the parents all chipped in for extra stuff. I had $80 for the week's food, but that party cost me $35 extra. I moved money from my 'fun' fund to cover it, but now I'm thinking maybe I should have a 'surprise kid stuff' category. How do you guys plan for random kid expenses that pop up?

My cousin in Toledo keeps a $50 envelope just for team snacks and last minute party stuff. It saves her from dipping into grocery money every time. I tried it last season and it worked way better than my old system of moving money around after the fact. You just have to remember to refill it when the season starts.
