My car's alternator died on the highway near Phoenix and my emergency fund saved me
It happened last Tuesday on the I-10, and the tow alone was $150. The repair shop quote was $850, which would have wrecked my month if I hadn't put $100 a month into my car fund. Has anyone else had a big win from a small, regular savings goal for stuff like this?

Man, that's such a relief! I was just reading an article about how these small "sinking funds" for specific things, like car repairs, are way less stressful than one big emergency fund. They used the example of putting aside twenty bucks a week for home maintenance. It seems so obvious, but it really works. Your story is the perfect proof of that idea in action.

Yeah so my buddy Tom did this exact thing, saved like thirty bucks a week for a year into a "car repair fund" and when his transmission blew he had like 1500 bucks sitting there. He didn't even blink, just paid the mechanic and moved on. Meanwhile I'm over here with one big emergency fund that I'm scared to touch because what if something worse happens. Honestly seeing him do that made me realize I've been overcomplicating it for years. The smaller funds just make it feel doable and less like you're failing at adulting.
