Ignored the cash envelope method for 3 years, now I feel dumb about it
I used to roll my eyes at cash envelopes. Sounded like something for people who can't control a debit card, not me. Then in January I tried it for groceries only, $140 a week in twenties. First two weeks were rough, I kept running out by Thursday and eating cereal for dinner. By week six I was coming in under budget and putting the extra in a jar for my kid's school fees. The weird part is I spend less now even when I use the card, just because I know what $140 looks like in my hand. Anyone else try envelopes for just one category instead of everything at once?
