Debate: envelope budgeting app vs old school cash envelopes - which is actually better for keeping spending in check?
I tried YNAB for 3 months and kept overspending because clicking buttons felt fake, but paper envelopes with $200 in cash made me physically feel the loss. Anyone else find digital tools make it too easy to ignore the pain of spending?

Dropped a wad of cash on the coffee shop counter once because my phone app said I had $400 left in my "eating out" category. Turns out I forgot to sync it and actually had $40. Paper envelopes are brutal because you can't lie to yourself. Digital tools feel like a video game where losing means clicking "reset" instead of feeling the empty wallet. My cash envelope system turned me into that weirdo counting nickels at the register but at least I stopped cheating.

Counting nickels at the register is a rite of passage lol. But hey at least cash doesn't let you trick yourself into thinking you got more than you do. Digital tools are great until they glitch and you're left short.
