Bought a cheap dehydrator off Amazon and now I understand why you pay more

I got this little plastic dehydrator for 35 bucks last spring thinking I was being smart. Figured I'd dry some apples and herbs, save money on store bought snacks. Well it took 18 hours to dry a batch of apple slices and they came out chewy instead of crisp. The fan noise was so loud I had to run it in the garage. After three uses the tray cracked and the heating element started acting funny. I went to return it but the seller ghosted me. So I lost 35 dollars plus the cost of the apples I ruined. Has anyone else had bad luck with these low end food dehydrators or did I just pick a dud?

Chewy apple slices sound better than crunchy ones to me, and you got exactly what you paid for.

Yo @harris.emma hold up lol is this really that deep? Like we are talking about apple slices here, not a life or death decision. Crunchy vs chewy is just personal taste, not some moral failing. I get what you're saying about getting what you paid for but sometimes convenience wins out over texture. I feel like this whole debate is getting way more energy than it deserves.
