Appreciation post: the $60 cash envelope guy at my credit union in Tucson was right, and I owe him an apology
About 8 months ago I sat through a free budgeting class at my credit union in Tucson and this older guy kept pushing cash envelopes for groceries and gas. I figured it was old school stuff that wouldn't work for me, so I smiled and tossed the handout in my truck. Then in January I pulled my card statement and counted $412 in food delivery and random gas station runs I couldn't even remember making. I went back to his idea with $200 in tens and twenties split into two envelopes, and by week 3 I was actually thinking before I tapped my card because I could see the cash getting thin. Curious if anyone else here has a spending category where cash works better than an app, cause I'm not sure which one to try next.
