One comment about my speaker wire made me redo my whole setup
Someone on here told me my 12 gauge speaker wire was overkill for a 10 foot run and honestly I got defensive at first. But I actually measured the distance to my surrounds and they were right, I was spending like $60 on wire for no reason. Swapped to 16 gauge from a local electronics shop for $12 and my receiver even pushed the levels differently. Anyone else catch themselves buying pro gear when budget would work fine?

Nobody's talking about how those $60 wires double as a nice workout when you're wrestling them behind a TV stand. Seriously though, I ran 14 gauge for a 15 foot run to my rears and the difference over 16 gauge was basically nothing, so I get your point. But here's the thing, that cheap wire you swapped to, is it pure copper or that copper clad aluminum stuff? Because I've seen budget wire test way higher resistance than the label says, and then you're back to square one with levels that drift. Also, some receivers just react differently to capacitance on the line, not saying yours is wrong, but I've had gear that sounded thin on skinny wire and fine on thicker stuff. You won the money game for sure, but I'd keep the old wire in a drawer in case you ever move stuff around or upgrade to bigger speakers. Overkill is only dumb if you never need it.
