I finally tried pulling my speakers 8 inches off the back wall and it fixed my muddy sound
I always figured room treatment was a rich guy thing, so I lived with boomy dialogue for like 2 years in my apartment near Akron. Last weekend I read a random comment about keeping speakers away from walls and moved my cheap bookshelves out about 8 inches, plus toed them in a bit toward the couch. The difference was real, voices stopped blending into the music and I could finally hear what people were saying in action scenes. Has anyone messed with pulling speakers off the wall like this, and how far did you end up going before it got too thin sounding?
