Found out my old receiver was the bottleneck, not my speakers
Been running a pair of old Sony towers I got from a garage sale for like $40, plus a cheap sub from Walmart. Spent months thinking the speakers were just muddy, kept messing with placement and EQ settings. Last weekend I finally checked the receiver's actual wattage output, it's a 90s Kenwood that claims 100w but real tests online show it barely pushes 35w clean. After I swapped in a $120 used Denon from Facebook Marketplace, the same speakers sound completely different. Bass is tighter, dialogue is clearer, it's night and day. Kinda annoyed I wasted like 8 months blaming the wrong gear. Has anyone else had the receiver turn out to be the weak link, or is it usually the speakers in your experience?
