Unpopular opinion: the 'broken' part of old games was never the bugs, it was the save system
I replayed a PS1 game from 1998 on my old console and lost 2 hours of progress because a memory card corrupted on the last save slot. Back then we just called it 'part of the game' and started over, but now I watch people rage quit over a single autosave glitch and I get it. Are we softer now, or were we just too young to know we deserved better?
A buddy of mine had the exact same thing happen with a PS1 memory card back in the day, whole card wiped and he lost weeks of a RPG. He just shrugged, said "well that sucks", and started the game over from scratch that same night. No drama, no yelling, just accepted it as a thing that happens. Now he's got kids who lose ten minutes of a game to a save bug and you'd think the world ended. Maybe we weren't tougher back then, we just didn't know any better because every game came with that risk built in. Honestly the save systems were straight up broken and we just had no other option.
