That "spawned me under the map" thing reminds me of when Skyrim kept launching me into the void every time I loaded a save near Whiterun. I had like 200 hours in that file and ended up downloading a mod just to teleport myself back to solid ground. The whole fix took two minutes but I sat there staring at the loading screen for an hour first, dreading the worst.
