Vent: That fancy $300 mortar mixer was a total dud for me
I finally bit the bullet last spring on a high end electric mortar mixer, thinking it would save my back on a big retaining wall job. Cost me $300 from a big box store, and it stripped the gears after mixing maybe 15 batches. Had to finish the whole wall by hand with a hoe in a tub, which took me an extra two days. My buddy swears by his cheap $80 paddle mixer from the 90s that still runs like a champ. Anyone else get burned by a pricey tool that just didn't hold up?

Wait, 15 batches? That thing stripped after barely a day's work?

Man, seriously! I had the exact same thing happen with one of their newer models. Bought it based on the reviews, used it maybe three hours total, and the coating on the blade just started flaking off like crazy. It couldn't even handle a simple cleanup job without getting gunked up. For the price they're charging, you'd think it'd last more than a single workday, right? Feels like they cut every corner they could find just to get it out the door.
