Used to think speed was everything on a job site

Overheard a superintendent talking about a crew that laid 800 brick in a day but had to tear out 50 the next morning because the joints were off. I always prided myself on speed but that number hit different. Started taking an extra 15 seconds per course to check my line and level after that. Work slowed down maybe 10 percent but I haven't had a single tear out in 6 months now. Anyone else change how they work after seeing someone else's screw up?

Nah man I gotta disagree, speed is still king on most jobs I've seen. If you're slowing down 10 percent across 6 months that's a lot of lost money for very few callbacks on a good crew. Plus those foremen who push production always remember the fast guys first come bonus time, not the ones who never make mistakes.
