Took me 6 hours to fix a wall that was 1/4 inch off
Started a garden wall last Tuesday behind my shop. Got three courses in and noticed the whole thing was leaning left. Level said it was fine but my eye knew better. Took a whole hammer and chisel to pull it apart and redo it. What do you guys use to catch a lean early before it sets up?

Get yourself a long level, at least 4 foot. That little torpedo level will lie to you every time. Also pull a string line from one end to the other, tight as you can get it. Sight down that string every couple blocks, you'll see the lean before it's too late. I check after every single course now, learned that one the hard way too.

3 years into my first retaining wall I finally went and bought a 6 foot level, night and day difference in catching those small dips. That string trick saved me after a rainy weekend too when the ground settled uneven.
