Took me 11 hours to figure out my string line was the problem, not my brick
I was laying a garden wall in my backyard and kept getting a 3/8 inch bulge in the middle courses no matter how careful I was. Turned out my mason's line had stretched from sitting in the sun all afternoon, so every course I set was following a sagging line instead of staying true. Has anyone else had a line go bad on them mid job, and do you just swap it out or try to retension it?
That "sagging line" thing gets so many of us and it's maddening because you trust the line more than your own eyes. String does stretch once it heats up, and once it's cooked it never really goes back true. A fresh line is cheaper than redoing a course, so I'd just swap it out.
