Pro tip: I mixed a batch of mortar with rainwater on a job in Portland last fall.

The brickwork set way too fast and the color was off. Turns out the pH was all wrong. Anyone else run into weird water issues?

Ever think about how much we ignore water quality? I've seen guys use water from a rusty jobsite tank and the whole pour was stained orange. That soft rainwater in some areas can wreck lime based mixes too, it's not just about pH. Makes you wonder how many callbacks are from bad water no one even tested.

Rainwater in Portland is basically just weak acid. That's a known thing. Seems like a pretty big variable to add to a mix without checking it first. Hard to feel bad when the fix is just using normal tap water like everyone else.
