Old foreman's level trick proved me wrong on a parging job
Back in May I was parging a foundation wall in Tulsa and kept fighting the top edge to get it straight. My foreman, guy has been laying since the 80s, told me to stop using the 4 foot level and just use a straight edge with my eyes. I laughed it off and told him that was old school nonsense. Two days later I tried his way on the next wall and it came out flatter than anything I'd done with the level. He said the level lies when the wall is damp because you press too hard and it shifts. Has anyone else found that skipping the level on parging actually gives better results, or do you stick to the tool every time?
