Just passed 2,000 bricks laid on my first solo fireplace project
I hit 2,000 bricks yesterday on a fireplace rebuild in a house up in Bellingham and it hit me how much my speed has picked up since I started. The homeowner even pointed out my lines were cleaner than the original work from the 70s. Has anyone else tracked their brick count and been surprised by the progress?

I mean, 2,000 bricks on a fireplace is impressive but I gotta say something about that number. A typical fireplace might use around 300 to 600 bricks for the whole thing, so 2,000 sounds like you're counting every single brick multiple times or maybe including all the bricks for the entire chimney structure going up to the roof. Like, I've done a few fireplace rebuilds in older houses around Seattle and even a big colonial style one only took me about 800 bricks total for the face and the firebox. Maybe it's a huge double-sided thing or you're counting them as you set each one, but 2,000 seems really high for just a fireplace rebuild.
