I used to laugh at the guys who swore by those laser levels

Honestly, I thought they were just a fancy toy for people who couldn't read a line. For years, I'd just use my string and a level, and it worked fine. Then I took on a big chimney repair job in Springfield last fall, about 40 feet up on scaffolding. Trying to keep my lines plumb and level across that distance with the wind was a nightmare. My buddy lent me his DeWalt laser level, and I finally gave in. Ngl, setting it up felt like a hassle at first. But once I saw that red line projected perfectly straight across the whole structure, I had to admit it. It cut my setup time in half and the work was just cleaner. Has anyone else had a tool they resisted that actually made a real difference on a specific job?

Yeah, felt the same way about those things. Hanging doors by myself changed my mind pretty fast.

Oh man, "hanging doors by myself" is the PERFECT example. I had the exact same wake up call trying to install a stupid pre-hung closet door. Nothing lines up, you need three hands, and the hinge pins are impossible. I went from "how hard can it be" to covered in sweat and calling a friend in under an hour. Some jobs just NEED two people.
