Had to pick between a HERITAGE brick and a MODERN brick for my new edging project

I needed brick edging for a garden path at a house built in 1923 near Buffalo. I chose the heritage brick for the look, but it crumbled on the third row when I tapped it with my trowel. Has anyone else had old bricks fall apart mid-lay like that?

Crumbled on the third row" - sounds like they were frost-heaved out of the ground already.

Guess my tapping technique is a little too aggressive for hundred year old bricks...
