Furring strips should be straighter than this

Watched a guy on a new townhouse build in Austin nail furring strips all wavy on a block wall last Tuesday. He was proud of himself, said nobody would see it once the drywall goes up. But the board will follow every bump and you end up shimming forever just to get a flat face. I know it takes an extra 10 minutes per wall to check them with a straightedge, but I've torn out worse after 3 years of settling. Anyone else run into this or do people just not care anymore lmao.

Man I used to be exactly like that guy. Thought straightedges were for the picky folks and time was money. Then I helped a buddy finish a basement where the previous owner had skipped checking the furring and we had to plane down half the studs just to get cabinets to sit flush. Three years of humidity and the boards had twisted worse than a pretzel. Drywall might hide it at first but it always shows up at the corners or around the outlets. Now I check every single run before I nail anything. Ten minutes beats a full weekend of shimming any day.
