Wasted $60 on a bread machine that just sits in my closet now

Bought a used bread machine off Facebook Marketplace thinking it would save me time. Used it twice. The loaves came out dense and weird shaped. Hand kneading gives me way better results and takes maybe 10 extra minutes. Anyone else regret buying a bread machine?

Stare at that dusty machine every time I grab a bag of flour. Honestly, you're better off without it. My buddy's machine turned his sourdough into a hockey puck with a weird crust, like something you'd use to patch a drywall hole. Hand kneading is cheaper, and you get a workout for your arms instead of a lumpy brick.

Wait, he actually used it to make sourdough? Like, the whole loaf? I've heard of bread machines wrecking regular sandwich bread but sourdough takes forever and has that bubbly starter, so I figured the machine would just destroy it. Did the crust actually look like drywall? That's hilarious and terrifying at the same time. I gotta ask, did he ever try it again or did he just toss the whole thing in the garage and pretend it never happened?
