Wasted $40 on a fancy bread lame I barely used

Bought this expensive curved lame from a specialty baking site because I thought it would give me perfect scores. Used it twice and realized my old straight razor blade works just as good for my basic sourdough loaves. The handle is nice but I could have spent that money on better flour instead. Anyone else regret buying fancy tools too early?

Oh man, I did the exact same thing with a specialty lame. Learned the hard way that a sharp razor and a steady hand does the trick just fine. Have you tried just using a razor blade stuck on a chopstick as a cheap handle?

Oh man, I've got a buddy who bought one of those expensive proving baskets that was like fifty bucks. He used it twice and then his dog chewed the corner off it. Now he just uses a regular bowl with a floured tea towel and says it's the same thing. Told me he could have bought ten bags of good bread flour for what that basket cost him. It's funny how we think fancy gear will fix everything until we realize the old way works just fine.
