Vent: Overheard my coworker say proofing baskets are a waste of money

He said he just uses a regular mixing bowl and a towel and honestly after trying both for 6 months the basket gives way better shape and air flow, has anyone else dealt with people acting like specialty gear is useless when it clearly helps?

Agreed completely. I used to be in the "just use a bowl and towel" camp for years, but actually getting a proper proofing basket showed me how much better the results are. The crust and shape are just noticeably better for me.

That sounds like the same argument people make about cheap crappy baking sheets versus good ones. Yeah a mixing bowl works but the basket isn't just for holding dough, it lets air hit the sides and helps that skin form right. Did your coworker actually look at the difference in oven spring between the two methods or was he just guessing from the start? Curious if he ever even tried a proper basket once or if he just decided it was a waste before he knew anything about it.
