Spent $40 on a proofing basket set and hated every minute of it

Got one of those banneton sets online and my dough stuck to it like glue on the first try, then the second loaf got a weird crust from the liner. Am I doing it wrong or are these things just overhyped for beginners like me? Anyone else go back to a simple bowl and towel method instead?
