My starter in Portland last year bubbled over twice a week for a month. That's just a strong feed, not a jailbreak. A lid popping off sounds more like a bad seal or too small a jar. I've never seen dough actually climb the glass.

Oh man, I have to disagree on that one. A truly wild starter should be able to climb out. If it's just bubbling over the top, that's just Tuesday. Mine once lifted the lid clean off and left dough on the ceiling. Now that's an escape artist.
