My sourdough starter finally doubled in 4 hours after 9 days of nothing

I started my first starter with just flour and water on the 1st, and for over a week it barely bubbled. I kept feeding it every 12 hours, but it sat there looking flat and sad. Then on day 9, I moved it to a warmer spot near my water heater, and that same night it doubled in volume by the 4 hour mark. The only other thing I changed was switching from tap water to bottled spring water, so I'm guessing the chlorine was the problem. Has anyone else seen this big a jump just from water or temperature? I'm curious if I should keep the same feeding schedule now that it's active.

Did you happen to check if your water heater room also smells like gas, because that can feed a starter too?
