Bought a $12 bread lame and it changed my scoring game completely

I was using a sharp knife for months and getting ragged results, but that cheap little lame with the curved blade gave me clean slashes on my first try. Has anyone else had a cheap tool unexpectedly fix a major problem in their baking?

So was it just the curve that made the difference, or the sharpness of the blade too?
