Update: chose perlite over sand for my monstera cutting and now the leaf is yellowing

Everyone at the Austin plant swap said perlite drains faster, but my 4 inch cutting has been sitting in it for 9 days and the new leaf is going soft. Did I mess up by not mixing in any orchid bark, or is this just normal shock?
