The night a jasmine plant at the local arboretum changed my pruning style forever

I was at the Smithtown Arboretum last spring and saw this massive jasmine vine that was pruned so hard it looked like a stick bush, yet it bloomed like crazy. Made me think maybe we overthink pruning and leave too much foliage. Do you lean toward heavy pruning for more blooms or do you keep it bushy for the overall shape?

Blew up a rhododendron once by accidentally heavy pruning it, looked like a sad stick salad for a month but it came back like a champ. Now I'm the guy who's scared to touch anything with clippers.

And yeah @michaelw26 I get that fear. Did the same thing to a hydrangea once and thought I killed it. Came back with blooms the size of my head though so maybe scared pruning is the secret.
