The master gardener who told me my compost was too dry, she was right
I've been composting for about 2 years now, mostly just kitchen scraps and yard clippings. Last month at the community garden on Elm Street, this retired lady named Ruth took a handful from my bin and said 'this is dust, not soil.' She was blunt about it. I always thought compost just needed time, but she showed me it should clump like a damp sponge. Started adding more grass clippings and watering it every few days. After 3 weeks the pile actually heated up for the first time. Has anyone else gotten feedback that made them rethink a basic habit they thought they had down?
