Shoutout to the guy at the plant swap who said to use pickle juice for my calathea

My calathea's leaves were getting those crispy brown edges, and I tried everything for months... more humidity, less light, filtered water. Nothing really fixed it. Then at a swap in Portland, this older guy told me to water it once with the leftover juice from a pickle jar, the kind with no added sugar. I was sure it would kill the plant, but I tried it about three weeks ago. The new leaves coming in are totally smooth, no browning at all. Has anyone else tried something this weird that actually worked for fussy plants?

Wait, you just poured pickle juice straight from the jar into the dirt? That's wild, I would've been so scared of the salt lol. I guess if it's the no sugar kind it's basically just vinegar and spices. Still feels like giving your plant a weird salad.

The vinegar might lower soil pH, letting the plant take up nutrients better.
