Picked a dwarf fig over a persimmon tree and now I'm glad I did

I had space for exactly one new tree in my backyard here in St. Louis, so it was between a 'Celeste' fig or a 'Fuyu' persimmon. I went with the fig because my neighbor down the street has one that pumps out fruit like crazy with basically zero care. Six months in now and I just picked my first ripe fig this morning, it was way sweeter than I expected. Anyone else struggle with choosing between two trees for a tight spot?

Man, that's a tough call for sure... figs and persimmons are both solid picks. Glad yours is already paying off so quick. I planted a 'Brown Turkey' fig a couple years back in a half barrel on my patio, and it took damn near a full year before I got anything worth eating. But once it settled in, it just exploded with fruit every August. That first ripe one you pop straight off the tree is hard to beat. Just watch out for the birds once they figure out what you've got, they'll strip it clean if you blink.

Aw man, tell me about it with the birds! I lost almost half my cherry crop last year before I finally got netting up. Glad your fig finally kicked into gear though, that must feel amazing after waiting a whole year.
