Just realized my old coffee grounds were killing my peace lily
For about three months straight, I was dumping my morning coffee grounds into the pot with my peace lily, 'Frank', thinking I was giving him a nitrogen boost. His leaves started turning yellow and drooping really badly last week. I looked it up and found out coffee grounds can make the soil way too acidic for some plants, especially if you don't compost them first. What's a better kitchen scrap to use for houseplants that won't cause this kind of trouble?

Oh man, I did the exact same thing with my fern and learned eggshells are way safer.

So what happened with your fern exactly? Mine got these weird brown spots after I tried coffee grounds, which is why I switched to just crushing up eggshells for calcium instead.
